The kitchen in this 1918 vintage Coventry home had evolved over the years. There had been two major expansions of the kitchen, one in 1939 and another in the 80's.

• In 1939 the homeowners expanded the kitchen onto what originally was a back porch. When they did that they never bothered to level the floor and as a result the far edge was 5" lower than the perimeter of the old kitchen.
• The 80's expansion encompassed the remains of a back porch - keeping the same severe pitch to the floor. The work was clearly done by unlicensed workers who had glass windows supporting the load of the second story.
• The space was not well insulated and was cold and drafty in the winter. When we were done the space stayed warm without added heaters, but baseboard heat was added.
• The cabinetry dated from the 1939 era and had evolved with "close but not exact" and mismatched cabinet modules and appliances
• The layout was not laid out to enable eat-in accommodations, a feature the owner really wanted.
